Karrar is a jet-powered aircraft family associated with target-drone, combat and interception roles. The US Army’s ODIN reference attributes manufacture to HESA and dates its introduction to 2010. It describes assisted take-off and parachute recovery, establishing that the aircraft is not inherently an expendable one-way design.
A more specific programme milestone occurred on 10 December 2023, when Iranian commanders attended a ceremony delivering Karrar aircraft in an air-interception configuration to the Army’s Air Defence Force. State broadcaster Press TV reported the event and attributed earlier exercise activity to the programme. The ceremony supports delivery of that configuration; it does not verify the broad effectiveness claims accompanying the announcement.
This profile groups the aircraft family while distinguishing a target drone from a mission-equipped version. A payload figure in a general equipment reference should not be assumed to describe every interceptor or training configuration. Equally, the delivery of one configuration does not establish that all existing Karrar airframes have been converted. Current fleet totals, endurance and configuration-specific sensor installations remain unresolved in the reviewed evidence. The public role and recovery method are clearer than a complete, current performance envelope.
