Evidence & current status
Reviewed 21 September 2026. Contract status is supported by the authority. Technical data comes from a dated supplier interview in a government defence publication, not a current acceptance report. Published altitude figures differ across later reporting, so no consolidated ceiling is asserted.
SkyGuard is a Saudi tactical surveillance and reconnaissance programme developed by the Prince Sultan Defense Studies and Research Center. GAMI announced a contract with SAMI for further development and manufacture in October 2021, alongside a SAMI agreement with the research centre. That establishes an industrial commitment, rather than a verified operational fleet.
A December 2022 Nation Shield report from SOFEX quoted a centre official describing a complete tactical system with autonomous take-off and landing, a ground control station and a separate data terminal. Its published performance figures describe the exhibition configuration and should not be assumed to apply to every later iteration. The same report said subsystem qualification had been conducted and flight testing was continuing.
This profile uses the official programme name and retains the older Sky Guard spelling as an alias. A dated contract and a demonstrated aircraft are useful evidence, but neither establishes the size of the accepted inventory. A current manufacturer configuration sheet, aircraft-specific acceptance notice and confirmed operator would allow a firmer comparison with other tactical reconnaissance systems.
