Evidence & current status
Unreported specifications and model-specific operator acceptance remain explicit uncertainties.
Osprey extends Teledyne Gavia's modular vehicle approach into a larger-diameter underwater platform. Its architecture separates propulsion, control, energy and payload functions, with an optional module for additional attitude and depth control. This allows mission equipment to change while retaining the overall family interface. The product is offered to defence, scientific and commercial users, so naval relevance does not imply that every Osprey customer is military.
The supplier describes a 2,000-metre depth rating and a typical 24-hour mission at three-and-a-half knots with two rechargeable battery modules. Those conditions are part of the figure: neither the maximum speed nor the largest payload should be combined with that duration without another documented baseline. Published length and mass also vary by configuration.
Available sensors include several sonar types and optical survey equipment. Inertial navigation is aided by velocity measurements, with optional acoustic positioning support. A 2025 Teledyne/BMT cooperation announcement discusses the broader underwater vehicle portfolio, but does not identify a separate Osprey naval fleet or give its acceptance date. This record consequently preserves supplier-reported status and avoids borrowing Gavia customer counts.
