Liminal Industries announced on 28 September that its DUEL-V uncrewed ground vehicle had advanced to Phase II of the US GroundBreaker 1 competition after technical review of its initial submission. It plans to bring several vehicles to a demonstration at Camp Grafton, North Dakota, in mid-October.
The company describes DUEL-V as a compact, remotely operated, four-wheel-drive platform that can continue to move when inverted and accepts different mission payloads. Its release does not disclose dimensions, payload capacity, speed, range, price or measured field performance. These design descriptions are supplier claims awaiting demonstration.
Selection is not a purchase
GroundBreaker 1 will put vehicles before government evaluators in a live setting. Liminal says companies that perform successfully may later be invited to submit a proposal for a prototype Other Transaction Agreement. Phase II selection therefore establishes a place in the demonstration, not a prototype contract, production order or military acceptance.
The October event should provide evidence on operator usability and practical performance. Until its results are published, DUEL-V's maturity and suitability for particular missions remain open questions.
