Rheinmetall announced on 30 October that its Air Defence business and Silvus Technologies signed an agreement to integrate Silvus RFeye passive radio-frequency sensors into Rheinmetall's Skynex ground-based air-defence system and Skymaster command platform. The companies describe the sensors as an added source of threat detection and location information that can supplement radar without transmitting. Their statement does not specify contract value, sensor quantity, customer, delivery date or an integrated-system trial.
Role in the defensive chain
A passive RF sensor listens for relevant emissions rather than illuminating a target with its own radar signal. That can add an electromagnetic picture to a defensive system and help locate emitting aircraft or control links. Rheinmetall says RFeye data is intended to complement Skymaster's existing sensor inputs and support Skynex operators confronting drones and other airborne threats. A signed integration agreement is a programme step; it does not show that the combined system detects every low-emission or autonomous drone, or that it has completed a live interception test.
What remains to verify
Useful future evidence would include an identified Skynex configuration, a completed sensor-fusion demonstration, measured detection performance against representative targets and a customer acceptance notice. The present announcement supports a planned integration, not an already deployed RFeye-equipped Skynex battery.
