Safran Electronics & Defense and MSI-Defence Systems announced on 4 November a memorandum of understanding to develop and market counter-drone turret systems for naval and land use. They also reported an initial contract with an unnamed NATO European navy: Safran VIGEO sights are to be fitted to MSI's SEAHAWK DS30M 30 mm gun mounts aboard mine-countermeasure vessels. The companies say deliveries are planned for 2027.
What is actually ordered
The disclosed order concerns a naval gun-and-sight configuration. Safran describes VIGEO as a stabilized sight that provides day and night observation, laser ranging and fire-control support. The wider collaboration also covers TERRAHAWK land gun systems and other Safran sights, but the announcement does not identify a customer order for those additional combinations. It does not name the navy, ship class, number of mounts or contract value.
Counter-drone evidence boundary
Both companies position the collaboration for counter-UAS roles. A sight can improve finding, tracking and aiming at a small aerial target, but performance depends on the full sensor, fire-control, effector and operator chain. The release gives no combined-system firing trial, interception rate, target set or naval acceptance record. The NATO navy contract is a procurement milestone, while delivery and demonstrated counter-drone performance are future evidence to watch.
