The US Navy announced on 22 September that its Collaborative Autonomy Mission Planning (CAMP) capability had been demonstrated during Gray Flag 2026 at Point Mugu, California. The trial took place earlier in September; this is a newly reported result, not a flight conducted today.
The Navy says its PMX-281 team prepared a mission plan, passed it to a General Atomics MQ-20 Avenger surrogate aircraft for execution and reviewed the results. CAMP translates planning information, including roles, timing and constraints, into a form an autonomous aircraft can use.
Integration milestone
The report documents a service-reported demonstration of the planning-to-execution connection. It does not establish fleet deployment, carrier certification or operational acceptance of a future combat aircraft. The announcement provides no independent quantitative assessment of reliability or interoperability across different platforms.
For readers following autonomy, the relevant advance is integration with human planning processes rather than a new aircraft design.
